Red Hills + Wildflowers Engagement Session

Out past Chinese Camp, California sits sprawling Red Hills. A local recreational area known for being one of the filming locations of Back to the Future III, it hosts quite a few trails for hiking, biking, or riding horses.

Although very dry, there are always a few months of the year where the plants are green and the flowers bloom like crazy!

J + T had gotten engaged that past December and wanted to get some nice engagement photos before traveling cross country for school.

They were planning on leaving mid-March and it was February at the time when we were planning their session. The idea was to be outdoors and hopefully have some flowers around. We talked about a few locations and settled on Red Hills. Flowers would be coming up soon, but we had to time it just right!

We didn’t have a specific date in mind because our schedules were kind of loose, but then the rains came.

For about 2 weeks rain and snow kept cycling through the area. As soon as we thought it would dry up, another small storm would pass through.

But then the clouds broke. With only 1 or 2 days before they started their cross country trek, we needed to get a move on!

We met up on one of their last days in town. Their truck was already packed up since they had to be out of their house, so we piled in and drove off to the hills!

A gorgeous, warm winter day met us in Red Hills. The yellow wildflowers popping up in the green grasses. Sun glistening off the chilly creek water. A perfect day to document the joy of their engagement season!
